Popular Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay emphasized the importance of resisting temporary pleasures and avoiding drugs during a student felicitation ceremony. The event, held in Chennai on Friday, June 28, honored the top three Class 10 and 12 students from all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing the students, Vijay remarked, “Success is never ending, and failure is never final,” encouraging those who didn’t achieve the expected scores to keep striving. He spoke to an audience of over 3,000 people, including students and their parents.
Vijay criticized the DMK government for its alleged failure to control the drug problem in the state, questioning whether educated leaders should enter politics. He stressed the need for good leaders with strong leadership qualities, regardless of their field.
"We need good leaders," Vijay stated. "Leadership is essential in any endeavor, not just politics. I hope politics becomes a viable career option for educated individuals."
He urged students to critically evaluate information from social and mainstream media. “See everything but analyze what is right and wrong,” he said, adding that understanding the real issues of the nation and recognizing social evils is crucial. He encouraged students to develop broad, global perspectives and to elect good leaders without falling for political propaganda.
Expressing his concern over drug use among Tamil Nadu's youth, Vijay said, “Recently, drugs have become prevalent among youngsters. As a political leader and a parent, I am scared. While it’s the government's responsibility to control drugs, we must also take responsibility for ourselves.”
He concluded by asking the students to take an oath: “Say no to drugs. Say no to temporary pleasure.”
