However, contrary to the rumors, Cartoon Network is not shutting down.
The hashtag “#RIPCartoonNetwork” began trending on X after a post from the account "Animation Workers Ignited" went viral. The post featured a video titled “Cartoon Network is dead?!” which fueled the speculation and confusion.
The video was intended to spotlight the ongoing challenges faced by animators in the industry, such as layoffs and financial instability in various studios. It revealed that numerous animators have been jobless for over a year due to unprecedented job losses.
According to the video, while the animation industry thrived during the pandemic due to its ability to operate remotely, studios have since canceled projects, outsourced jobs, and laid off artists in large numbers.
“When COVID first hit, animation was able to operate completely remotely, making it one of the only forms of entertainment that could continue production uninterrupted. However, studios decided to repay this resilience by cutting costs, outsourcing jobs, and laying off artists en masse," the video explained.
The video also called on social media users to raise awareness about these issues. "You can help by spreading the word. Post about your favorite Cartoon Network shows you wish were still around using #RIPCartoonNetwork," it urged.
Despite the uproar, Cartoon Network has not released any statement addressing the shutdown rumors.
